My last article, Become a Prompt Master in One Day: My Journey to Understanding AI, was an incredible experience for me. In it, I shared my personal "epiphany"—the fundamental shift in thinking that was necessary to start working effectively with AI. Your reactions and questions after its publication were a catalyst for me and gave me an idea for something more. I realized that many of you, like me, are looking for the next step: moving from an inspiring philosophy to a concrete, practical craft.
That's why I treat that first article as a prologue, a "pilot episode" for our journey together. It focused on the fundamental question of "why”—it explained why changing your mindset from "I'm searching for keywords" to "I'm talking to an assistant" is absolutely crucial for getting good results. Now, the time has come for the "Prompt Master's Workshop" series, which will be entirely dedicated to answering the question of "how”—that is, how to build effective queries step-by-step, using specific, repeatable techniques.
We're starting with the foundation. After my "epiphany," frustration quickly set in: why, despite my good attitude, did my prompts sometimes work brilliantly and other times fail completely? I felt like a cook who intuitively throws ingredients into a pot—sometimes, by chance, creating a masterpiece, but unable to replicate it because he didn't know the recipe.
Everything changed when I understood that every truly successful prompt has its own internal skeleton, its own anatomy. I discovered 4 fundamental components that transform guesswork into a repeatable, engineering-like process. In this article, the first in the "Prompt Master's Workshop" series, we will break down this "recipe" into its core elements. I will show you the 4 fundamental ingredients that make up the DNA of a masterful prompt.
This is the most important part, the absolute core of every query. To put it simply, it's the verb—a clear and precise command that tells the AI WHAT to do. Without a clear instruction, the artificial intelligence doesn't know its primary role. It's like giving an employee a stack of documents without telling them whether to copy, summarize, or shred them.
Look at the difference:
Before (bad): "Marketing for a new coffee shop" (This is just a topic, not a command)
After (good): "Write an Instagram post...", "Create a list of 10 ideas for...", "Analyze the text below...", "Summarize the key takeaways from..."
In the previous article, I wrote about the importance of being precise. The instruction is the first, fundamental step toward that precision—it's the clear definition of the task from which everything else follows.
Context is all the additional information, the background that allows the AI to understand the world of your problem. As I wrote in my first article, this element was the absolute breakthrough for me. It was the moment I stopped throwing short phrases at the AI and started treating it like an incredibly capable assistant who first needs the whole situation outlined. This is the element that eliminates guesswork. The more relevant details you provide, the more accurate and personalized the response you'll receive.
I remember once asking the AI for "gift ideas." I got a list that included both socks and power banks. A complete failure. It was only when I added context: "for my teenage niece who is a fan of horses and photography, and my budget is 300 PLN," that I received a list of specific, perfectly tailored suggestions.
Context can be anything: your role ("I am the owner of a small e-commerce business..."), the goal ("I want to increase engagement..."), the target audience ("My customers are young professionals..."), or constraints ("The text cannot be longer than 500 characters...").
This is like being a director who, instead of talking to an anonymous extra, can cast an Oscar winner in the role. The AI ceases to be just a tool and becomes a specialist you consciously cast for a specific role. A persona is the deliberate assignment of a specific role, personality, or perspective from which the AI is to generate its response. This simple trick changes everything. Instead of a response from a "general language model," you get a response from an "SEO expert with 10 years of experience." The tone, style, and depth of the response change dramatically.
Here are a few examples of roles you can have the AI embody to get completely different results:
The last, but equally important, ingredient is to precisely specify the form and structure in which you want to receive the final result. This is another level of precision I mentioned in my first text. Instead of accepting the default response format, I started to clearly define the "packaging" I wanted it in. Why is this so important? Because it saves a ton of time on later copying, pasting, and formatting the text. AI can generate data in structures ready for immediate use.
Here are some example formats you can use:
"...present the result in a table with two columns: Pros and Cons."
"...respond in JSON format."
"...write a numbered list."
"...create an email in HTML format, ready to be pasted."
Spójrzmy, jak połączenie tych czterech składników zmienia jakość promptu.
Prompt BEFORE (incomplete):
Write a social media post about a new coffee.
Prompt AFTER (with 4 ingredients):
[INSTRUCTION] Write an Instagram post [CONTEXT] for our coffee shop 'Aroma Cafe,' announcing our new 'Guatemalan Hills' coffee. The post should be aimed at young professionals (25-35 years old) and emphasize its delicate, chocolatey flavor. [PERSONA] Write in the tone of an enthusiastic but not pushy barista. [FORMAT] The post should be about 300 characters long, include one engaging question, and 3-4 relevant hashtags.
Let's break down this prompt according to our anatomy:
INSTRUCTION: 'Write an Instagram post...' – A clear command.
CONTEXT: '...for our coffee shop... new coffee... aimed at young professionals...' – The full background.
PERSONA: '...write in the tone of an enthusiastic but not pushy barista.' – A specific role.
FORMAT: '...about 300 characters, one question, 3-4 hashtags.' – A precise structure for the output. Instead of a lottery, we have precise engineering.
Knowledge is one thing, but real learning begins with action. I want to give you a tool that helped me develop my skills the fastest—a technique of consciously documenting and analyzing your prompts. I call it a Prompt Diary.
It's simple: every time you work on a more significant task with AI, you note down your progress. You can create a simple document for this in Notepad, Google Docs, or Notion. The point is to track your evolution from the first idea to the final, masterful prompt.
How to do it? Here's the template I use myself:
Goal: What exactly do I want to achieve? (e.g., "Create 5 catchy email subject lines for campaign X")
Prompt (Version 1): Paste your first, raw prompt idea here.
Result & Analysis: What did I get? What was missing? (e.g., "The results were too generic. It lacked a persona and specific context about the target audience.")
Prompt (Version 2 - revised): Paste the improved version here, adding the missing anatomy components.
Final Result: Paste the much-improved result you received here.
Keeping such a diary is like strength training for your prompting skills. Instead of relying on memory, you create your own knowledge base of what works and what doesn't. I guarantee that this simple exercise turns an abstract skill into a concrete, measurable process and accelerates learning at least tenfold.

I know that the best theory remains just theory without practice. Therefore, if you feel like rolling up your sleeves right away, I've prepared two paths that can help you with that.

Instruction, Context, Persona, and Format. These are the four pillars on which I build almost every query to artificial intelligence. Remember how in the article about my journey to understanding AI I talked about changing your mindset? This checklist is a compass that turns a vague philosophy into a concrete map. It is this structure that has allowed me to stop wandering and relying on luck, and to start consciously navigating towards the goal of high-quality results. I encourage you to try looking at your prompts through the lens of these four components starting today.
Now I'm curious about your experiences. Which of these four ingredients have you most often omitted from your prompts so far, and which one seems the most revolutionary to you? Let me know in the comments!
I want to be completely transparent with you. In the spirit of what I teach, this article—from the initial idea, through the structure, to the final touches—was created in close collaboration with my creative partner, artificial intelligence. In this process, I used the Google Gemini 2.5 Pro model. I provided the ideas, experience, and direction, and Gemini helped me put them into words, organize them, and finally, translate the entire text from Polish. For me, this is the best proof that AI is not a threat, but a powerful tool that enhances human creativity. I hope that the result of our collaboration is valuable to you.
