The book by Sönke Ahrens first appeared in German and English in 2017. After it had sold more than 100,000 copies, he published a revised and expanded English edition in 2022.
It quotes the reply Niklas Luhmann gave when asked about his project: “My project: theory of society. Duration: 30 years. Costs: zero.”
